Features of modern high-performance heat sinks
Outstanding cooling performance at manageable costs is achieved with modular heat sinks, which are designed by combining standard modules in a performance-orientated and cost-conscious way. This results in customised units, for example with densely arranged cooling fins and long, thin fins. These heat sinks are compact yet have a very large surface area.
Depending on the requirements, EKL combines various production methods to join the modules into an efficient heat sink, including bonding, pressing, soldering, skived fins and friction stir welding.
If the calculated cooling capacity is still not sufficient, embedded heat pipes or liquid heat sinks can be used to achieve the desired power dissipation.

Friction stir welding (FSW)
In friction stir welding, a rotating pin is pressed into the butt joint of two cooling profiles and moved along the joint line. The material is heated by the friction and stirred by the rotation of the pin so that the materials join in a hot forming process.
Liquid heat sinks
A significant improvement can be achieved with heat sinks through which liquid flows. Due to their good thermal conductivity, copper or aluminium alloys are used as the plate material. To further reduce thermal resistance, the plates are made as thin as possible and have many channels running through them.
Skived fin heat sinks
The "scraped" ribs are seamlessly connected to the base plate and thus guarantee high-performance heat transfer. Even small batches can be realised thanks to inexpensive tools.

High-performance heat sinks in the application
